Every year, our school offers us the opportunity to participate in a community service program where students of Fountainhead School can teach a certain skill or sport to underprivileged children. We can choose from options such as football and frisbee, computers, and art and craft. I chose to teach the children football because I am passionate and play football too. A group of about 30 students was formed, all of who wanted to teach football. Under the supervision of Anwer Sir, we devised a structured training regime for the next six days of this community service program.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Through this experience, I achieved multiple learning outcomes and catered to sustainable development goals.<\/p>\n
LOI 2: The students whom I taught, studied in a Gujarati medium school and as I am not fluent in Gujarati, it was a challenge communicating with them on top of explaining football terminologies in simple language. During this process, my communication skills had also enhanced. This is where I demonstrated that challenges had been undertaken, developing new skills in the process.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
LOI 4: This community service lasted 6 days, for 3 weeks every weekend. Giving 18 hours to this was tough as there were many tasks that I had to handle not just in the service but outside it as well – personal tasks. I also fell sick in the second week yet attended the community service on that day. Here, I showed commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
LOI 6: All of these students came from underprivileged backgrounds which is an issue of global significance. So much talent is going unseen because of lack of opportunity. I am luck to be part of a school with connections that stretch across countries which provides me with a lot of opportunities and with this community service we were able to provide those students with opportunities as well. This is how I demonstrated engagement with issues of global significance.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
LO7: As a person blessed with immense opportunities, I find this form of service really valuable as its ethics are deeply rooted in with the values passed on to me: keep on giving to those in need and God will give you double. This quote is something I greatly respect as there are millions of people not fortunate enough to get the opportunities we casually take for granted. I wanted to share the knowledge I have gained through opportunities and experience to those who rarely get them. I want to do my part in sharing the joy of playing football.<\/p>\n
