World Costal Day Clean-Up

In support of International Coastal Day, I participated in one of the major beach cleanup activities that was performed in Surat. I participated in the beach cleanup that was carried out especially in Dumas, Surat where we were tasked with removing garbage such as plastics, that had been carelessly thrown on the Dumas Shore from various locations on the beach.

Because of my CAS experience, I now have a better understanding of a pressing environmental problem. I’ve learned from this CAS experience how much waste we actually toss on the beaches and the possible harm it it do to the ecosystem.

Learning Outcomes:

LO7: Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions

By participating in this beach cleanup effort, I became a part of this noble social cause to safeguard the seas by preserving them from contaminants that endanger ocean life. This decision was ethical because of its societal benefit, as well as my contribution to environmental sustainability.

LO:6 Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance

This CAS experience addressed the issue of land pollution, which developed as a result of people’s negligence in throwing litter on the beaches without considering the potential environmental consequences. The worldwide significance of dirty and unclean coastal regions cannot be overstated. Trash accumulating on beaches may end up as marine litter, impacting marine species and marine ecosystems in general. As a result, trash-filled beaches harm the ecology and pose a threat to sustainability.

LO:5 Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

Working collaboratively typically makes our tasks easier, and especially with this activity, it made our jobs easier since working in small groups was more productive because it made it faster and less time consuming. Working together rather than alone increases productivity and offers group members a sense of purpose in the event. Leadership and collaboration have a direct influence on a group’s capacity to carry out its execution. Leadership is required to ensure that everyone in your group is heading in the same direction and working toward the same objective.

LO:4 Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences

Most of us struggle to stay committed to our goals because we lack consistency. Things constantly seem to get in the way, and we delay, become lazy, and lose concentration . I demonstrated perseverance and commitment to the duty of beach cleaning, in which we had to go  and clear debris from numerous places throughout the beach.
