Global Odyssey – CAS Project

Global Odyssey was concerned with the learning from the subjects, economics and business management. Different stalls were organized on the day of the event for food, fashion, photobooth and fun. The students have showcased their classroom learning out of the classroom, the concepts of profit maximization, pricing, demand, supply, marketing and many more things. There was a variety of audience from grade 7 to grade 12, also there were teachers.

The event was majorly led by the students of economics and business management with the help of teachers. In order to make a successful event, the event had different management departments like, decor, accounts, food, fashion, social media, fun, band, event coordinators.

For the event I have been selected as the account’s leader. When the event was announced, the teachers had decided to give 5% of the total revenue to the NGO. As a leader of accounts, we have to ensure that each stall gives 5% of the total revenue to the NGO. Many students were not willing to give the 5% of their total revenue for the NGO, they have decided to show less revenue than their actual.

Through the journey of global odyssey, I had developed skills like team management, communication skills and thinking skills. This event required us as a team to work and plan for the event, like arrangement and allocation of the team members. This event required us to be great communicators, sharing the ideas for the setup for the event, taking permissions from the teachers and many more.

While demonstrating this CAS project, I demonstrated the following LO’s:

LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process.

During the process of global odyssey, I faced various challenges that resulted in the development of new skills. Initially we decided that the trading in the event will happen with a new currency of Global odyssey, GOPay coupons. Students will purchase coupons in exchange of cash through Cash-coupon counters. A day before the event, the plan of coupons was canceled, because there was a huge number of crowds, and limited time for students to visit stalls and enjoy the event, they would not be able to wait in a line for coupons and would affect the decorum of the event.

We were having only a few hours with us, wherein we needed to come up with a new idea, allocate and instruct the team members. Many team members were requesting for some changes, making changes as per their choices, keeping in mind the set of requirements by teachers. This was very challenging for us to manage things at the very last moment.

LO3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience

This process began with brainstorming different ideas which would be suitable for the given situations and the demand of teachers from our team. Find some aesthetically good designs which would be matching the theme of Global Odyssey. After finalizing the design there were a lot of loopholes in the plan which were encountered by overcoming the weaknesses of the plan.

LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively.

Generally working with a team is not easy for me, because I am very weak with my communication skills. This was a very difficult part for me from the whole process. However, it was very important to work collaboratively for this event, without communication and collaboration the work would be wasted. The teamwork was a must for the event. From the start of the event the whole team either its accounts, decor, food, fashion or fun, were giving their best, this made the event successful.

LO7: Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions.

From day one, global odyssey has been majorly focusing on the ethical part, like donating 5% to the NGO, reducing plastic waste by bringing your own dabbas. During the process, many students came to us and told us that they will give us commissions, so that we don’t take 5% of their total revenue. However, this as a team we decided to stick to the ethical part and be honest to the roles and responsibilities of ours.

I developed the learner profile attributes, Thinker; making use of critical and creative thinking skills to make ethical and strong decisions so that it is easy for the team members as well as fits for the teachers.

Last but not least, having and being principle means acting with honesty and integrity, having a strong sense of fairness and justice, and respecting the rights and dignity of everyone.

Overall, the event was a great success, we made ethical choices and decisions for the accounts part of the event. I personally learnt a lot of new things and developed new skills. This event was a fun and engaging experience which helped me personally grow in a new direction.
