Shelter home drive

Me and my friends organised a shelter home drive. This place was a home to orphan kids as well as old people. We inquired about this place via instagram and then created some activities and games for the kids. For this experience, we gathered a few volunteers from grade 12 and then scheduled a visit.

1. Identify your own strengths and develop areas for personal growth.

During this experience, I identifies my strengths and areas of growth. One of my strengths was to organizational skills and self management. I had to manage this drive and organisation while my school was on going. however, i managed everything with all the deadlines and submission. However, one area of growth was communication with other. I am not very good at communicating with others which needs to be developed.

2. Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process.

There were many challenges such as collaboration with the shelter home and making them believe that we have a genuine purpose of holding this drive. It was also difficult to make sure that the feelings and beliefs of anyone is hurt by us or the volunteers. This was difficult as we had to manage around 15 volunteers alone.

3. Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience.

I collaborated with my friends to coordinate with the shelter home. We conducted research on their work process and timings to plan various activities. Our planning started with identifying a shelter home, establishing timeline, finalysing volunteers, assigning roles and responsibilities to ensure the project’s success.

5. Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively.

Our CAS experience was a testament to the benefit of teamwork and collaboration. We worked closely and communicated with each other to put across our ideas and responsibilities. This was one of the most important step to ensure the success of our initiative. Through this, we were able to pool diverse skills and perspective, resulting to a more impactful experience.

7. Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions.

Ethical consideration were at the forefront of our decision making. We had to ensure that our action are respectful to the residents’ dignity and privacy. Additionally, we also had to manage the behavior of all the volunteers as they were present there because of our and hence, they become our responsibility.
