Community service was held in IBDP which was student led. It gave me an wonderful opportunity to enhance my creativity by teaching football to underprivillaged childrens for their hollistic development and joy. The event was of 6 sessions which were planned during weekends to not miss out academic learning. Being part of this event, I had chosen to teach the sport football as being an ISSO National level player. It was an pleasure to be around those children while they were pretty much enthusiastic in learning something they might just dream for.
LO1: Identify own strengths and area for growthÂ
It was pretty challenging for me to identify my weakness which was tutoring. Since, i had never thought of teaching someone my strenghts in a creative way. In order to work upon my weakness, I decided to take part in the sport which I am good at and tutor the childrens. It is important for us to know our weakness and work on it by our strengths. At then end, I realized that tutoring was something which I learnt so far in community service and it helped me build my confidence while working with large number of children. Overcoming my weakness had benefitted me as this event may help me in future by publishing tutoring videos on social media platform or other events.
LO4:Â Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
As I mentioned above, the event was of six sessions and commitment was required in order to earn certificate. Community service was an perfect opportunity for me to showcase my activity in a creative way and tutor the childrens by giving them time, although I had to manage my academics as well. Fortunately, I was able to attend all six sessions energetically without hindering my academic assignments. At some weekend, I did had to cancel other event in order to tutor underprivillged childrens. Sooner or later, i did relaize my preservance in community service did came from my tendecy to learn and teach underprivillged childrens something new which they had never learnt.
LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
Community service required communication and collbration skills while working on groups as there were many underprivillaged childrens in learning the sport. we had to demonstrate collabrative skills in dividing the groups and conduct the activity ,thought our group members were interactive everybody had contrasting ideas and opinions to share. I had showcased communication skills amongst my group memebrs and the children as it was required in order to teach them football, but the most challenging part was such that childrens were not comfortable with language “English”. The advantage of working collaboratively was that different creative minds let us come to several techniques and drills in a more interesint way
LO7: Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions
Ethical choice and actions were considered while teaching underpriviliged childrens because it led them develop their hollistic skills to grow. It is highly ethical to teach academics or extracuricular activites to such underprivilged childrens. Considering the ethical aspect of the environemt, there were no wastage of resources while tutoring the sport. I think my decision to participate in community service was a big accomplishment and joy for us. I was emotinal when I saw childrens playing with so much of energy and ethusiasam.
Final takeaway
The community service helped me become more “confident” and “caring” towards underprivilliged children and in general. It did benefit the childrens as well, in order to learn many skills and hollistic development. At the end, I feel proud of myself by commiting to sucessfully attend all six sessions during our weekends, and managing our time in academics as well .
