Creating application for unprivileged learners

As a responsible citizen and a student, I observed that there are many underprivileged children who are not able to get educated under certain circumstances. When going to school, I noticed several children staring at our school bus and imagining themselves inside bus and going to school. There are many reasons for lack of education for children. I felt privileged enough to get education from such a school and that inspired me to help these children and utilize my knowledge to educate them. For the same, I created an application using coding skills that will include basic information about all subjects (mathematics, science, language) all youngsters need.

 

LO 2 – “Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process.”

I participated in a experience which allowed me to develop new coding skills. I was exposed to new technologies and platform which brought in challenges throughout the project but they also helped me learn new aspects. This project also helped me increase my expertise in my future career field of computer science.

 

LO 3 – “Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience”.

Application building is a time-consuming process. Throughout the process I required researching existing solutions, developing new designs for the webpage and coding them successfully. I had to create a complete coherent plan before initiating the project. I had to have several consultations with primary teachers in order to understand the information and to be included in the application.

 

LO 7 – “Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions”

Initially I planned to keep some courses free and then further courses would be paid (at minimal cost) so that I can earn from the same and have a start-up. But then I realized that those kids can not even afford a meal per day and hence, even paying at the minimum cost would be difficult for them. So, this is how I achieved this outcome by recognizing and considering the ethics of my choices and actions.

 

Along with the learning outcomes, I personally developed the learning attributes of Knowledgeable as I used my conceptual understanding and explored new knowledge in the coding discipline. I passed on my current knowledge to the people who can not receive it and used the knowledge to create an impact in the society. Moreover I also developed the attribute of Inquirer. While developing skills, I nurtured my curiosity. I learnt new things independently with enthusiasm by asking doubts to experts. Throughout the process, I enjoyed acquiring new learnings and exhibiting them in my final draft.
