CAS – Beach Cleaning

On the occasion of World Coastal Day, I took part in a beach cleaning drive which was held on Dumas beach, Surat. We went to the beach early in the morning on a weekend where we were divided into groups and were expected to clean the beach.

  • LO4 – Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience.

I displayed perseverance and commitment to the beach cleaning drive as it was organized on the weekend which is usually a holiday for me, furthermore I was expected to wake up very early (5:30 AM) as well as carrying heavy bags full of trash over long periods of time.

  • LO5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively.

As the beach cleaning was a group project and upon arriving on the beach we were divided into small groups which would make the beach cleaning more efficient, I worked in a group which made the process smoother.

  • LO6 – Engagement with issues of global significance.

The issue dealt here was trash filled beaches which occur due to the negligence of our responsibility of keeping our beaches clean. Trash(especially plastic) is an issue of global significance as it affects many ecosystems and stakeholders.

  • LO7 – Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions.

By actively participating in the beach cleaning drive, I have demonstrated an ethical choice as it reflected to the betterment of our society.

The learner profiles I displayed during the beach cleaning were caring as the beach cleaning helped the marine ecosystem as well as the people living near the beaches.
