Cas Experience 2 : Monsoon Musings

I love writing and journaling my thoughts, and I love the idea of sharing my writings with other people I find close. I chose to be a part of Monsoon musings as it is an open event for people to share a piece they created on their own. It was a great opportunity for me to express myself through my piece and in front of a larger audience. I am genuinely interested in literature and wanted to make use of my interest in some other creative place other than just academics.

Monsoon musings was held in school on the 3rd of September 2022. The event was for people who like literature, or are interested in writing, sharing something personal, something they’ve come up with on their own to express their feelings to other such people. It was one of the greatest experiences of my life. I listened to other students´s pieces and there were also a few special guests invited for the event which made the session more intriguing. I was both a speaker and a listener. As much as I enjoyed presenting my piece, likewise I also loved to sit and listen to all the other people and what they had to say, this give me a look through to view and understand the other poets, their perspectives and look out in life which made me more open minded towards various topics that I didn’t find so evident before.

This event catered to the creativity aspect of CAS, as this was all about writing a piece on your own, which required thinking skills, and a whole lot of creativity. Just like any other art, there were no restrictions, and it was boundless. This event highlighted the idea of how different artists or poets perceive the world/surroundings in their own way, hence creativity was not defined in this event, the piece could be anything and there were no limits.

This event catered the following LOs

LO 1 : Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

As I am very inclined towards literature, I tried researching varied topics, and brainstormed a few ideas for my piece. Mainly I ensured that the piece I have written is true to me and is somehow personally significant to me, which I feel is important to me as a writer; I tried writing in a simple rhyming manner so that the personal essence remains, all of these were a part of strength, I already had experience in writing, hence I was able to form this piece in a short duration. Talking about weaknesses, I wasn’t confident on speaking my piece in front of an audience, and for that I rehearsed my piece beforehand and took considered essential factors like tone, voice modulation, hand gestures, pitch and facial expression, I presented in front of a smaller audience first so I got the some confidence through it, but I was able to overcome that and present the piece true to its emotion.

LO 2 : Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

I didn’t face any major challenge, however writing a piece was a little challenging, the whole process is time and effort consuming and requires a lot of patience and perseverance. I faced some issues while finding an appropriate aspect to present, something that would be personally significant. I used my interpersonal skills to brainstorm topics that interest & inspire me and drafted a rough piece. I further re-read and made necessary changes for my piece to sound coherent and engaging. I became more self aware as I explored through various topics and after writing the piece I gained more confidence in myself to express my piece in the truest form so that my audience could look through my eyes and understand my real intentions. Even though I faced a few challenges, the overall process was worth it and I was able to come up with a great piece.

LO 7 : Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions

Monsoon musings was an event of creativity, with no boundaries to a writer’s thoughts. There were a lot of issues raised in the pieces of the different poets that were presenting during the event. Some of them included animal cruelty, human rights, race and many more. This made an evident impact on my thinking related to the issues of this world and made me rethink about how we generally don’t give these issues the urgency and importance it deserves. Thus, it immensely affected me and changed my perspective related to such issues and created a deep impact on me overall.

As a result of the monsoon musings event I developed several learner profile attributes such as being more open-minded by appreciating my own personal histories and of others while witnessing other people´s performance and willingness to grow from this experience. I was also reflective by considering the world and our own ideas and experiences and also analyzing my own strengths and weaknesses to support my personal development. Lastly communicator; by presenting my piece confidently and creatively in front of others.

This event was very close to my heart, it inspired me to express myself and continue writing. I evolved as a learner as well as a writer. Monsoon musings made me more bold and confident, and gave me a new insight to life.
