Web development is an important skill to learn in 2023 because the internet has become an essential part of our daily lives. With more businesses moving online and people spending increasing amounts of time online, there is a growing demand for web developers who can create websites and applications that are functional, user-friendly, and visually appealing. To attain these benefits, I did a course on web development from Udemy. The online course started it in August 2022 and finished in October 2022. It includes 47 hours worth of content, 44 coding exercises and 1 project. It is offered by Colt Steele, rated 4.7 on Udemy and took up by more than 800,000 students online.
Web development includes a variety of elements and concepts, such as markup languages like HTML, cascading style sheets (CSS), Client-side scripting languages: JavaScript, jQuery, Server-side scripting languages: PHP, Python, Node.js, Databases: MySQL, MongoDB, APIs and web services: REST, JSON etc. which I learnt in detail.
These are some of my evidences from the course, I also made a website to accompany my course as the project which we had to make at the end.
This is the certificate of the course I got at completion :-
LO1 – Once I started the course, I instantly found out that coding was a totally new field for me and I had to learn everything from scratch. This was my area for growth as I had no knowledge about any language, its syntax, its functionality etc. However, I discovered that I am a good learner and I can instantly learn and grasp the topics taught to me even through the online module. This was one of my strengths which helped me learn.
LO2 -Â I was interested in coding and web development from the start, however, I was never good at it. It took a lot of effort to build logic and code for me for building a fully functional website. Also, understanding the concepts of programming was not a walk in the park because of the technical terms, programming languages etc. used were new to me and I had no prior experience. Hence, it took effort to learn and understand the course thoroughly and build the website (project) by myself. Also, the skill of programming is valuable and web development is in demand in the era, hence, developing this skill would be essential if I wanted to get into this field.
LO4 – As mentioned above, coding was very difficult, especially the coding exercises and the coding project. We had to do them on our own with no help, hence, we had to apply our problem solving and critical thinking skills to overcome this hurdle. There are 44 total exercises and we can only proceed if we complete the exercise, hence, I had to show perseverance and commitment in order to complete the whole course and also make a website at the end which is good looking and fully-functional.
