I had always been passionate about environmental conservation and had been eagerly waiting to do my bit for the planet. The international coastal clean-up day gave me an opportunity to do the same.

The Dumas beach is 2km long with trash spilled everywhere, making cleaning it no easy task. I spent 3+ hours by the shore, locating and collecting every single piece of trash I could, and despite being pretty worn out, I still showed perseverance and commitment and filled 3 whole trash bags to the brim. - LO5
Cleaning the beach is not a task that can be done alone, so I teamed up with my schoolmates to work collaboratively to gather the trash and it made a huge difference in the efficiency. Working in small groups really helped us pick up the pace and it made cleaning the beach a whole lot easier and achievable. - LO6
Every year, over 100 million marine organisms die due to humans disposing of their waste on beaches which later ends up as marine litter. Humans flooding the beaches with trash (Plastic Pollution) is a significant global issue as it ends up destroying ecosystems and is directly linked with this CAS experience. - LO7
This CAS experience allowed me to become part of a good social cause which gave me a reality check on how much humans litter and how it directly affects other species. I wanted to make a dent and stop the cycle of humans littering as they wish and my joining this beach cleaning campaign was an ethical choice made by me, contributing to making the environment more sustainable.
The experience of the International Coastal Clean-up day was a very fulfilling one for me. It reminded me of the importance of taking care of our planet and how we all have a role to play in preserving it. I felt proud of myself and my schoolmates for making a positive impact on the environment, and I look forward to participating in more such initiatives in the future.
