Our community took up the initiative of beach cleaning as part of our CAS project. We assessed the beach’s condition, identified the most polluted areas, and prioritized them for cleanup. We coordinated with several others and received the necessary equipment. We worked tirelessly in the scorching heat, dedicating several hours a day to clean the beach thoroughly. Our initiative not only contributed to society but also promoted sustainable development. By doing so, we also catered to several sustainable development goals – 11, 12, 13, and 15.
LO 3 -Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experienceÂ
In this project, the community initiated the beach cleaning initiative, which was then planned and executed with the help of locals and necessary equipment. The community assessed the condition of the beach, identified the most polluted areas, and through proper division of labor assigned areas for clean-up. I was involved in the decision-making process where at beach segregation was to be done for an effective cleaning process, I used and developed my managerial and organizational skills for the same. This process demonstrates how to initiate and plan a CAS experience effectively.
LO 6 – Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance
This project addressed several Sustainable Development Goals, including SDG 11, making cities and human settlements safe, inclusive, and sustainable; SDG 12, responsible consumption and production; SDG 13, taking urgent action to combat climate change; and SDG 15, protecting and restoring terrestrial ecosystems. The project’s focus on these goals indicates a strong engagement with issues of global significance.
LO 7 – Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions
The project demonstrated ethical considerations by promoting sustainable habits and reducing waste, playing its part in mitigating climate change, and restoring the marine ecosystem’s health. The project’s ethical considerations and actions demonstrate a commitment to making responsible and sustainable choices. This project helped me exhibit the IB Learner Profile principled, as I adhered to my ethical and moral obligations to the society.
