Fountainhead school was privileged to host the 4th ISSO event for Football. The categories were U-14 boys, U-14 girls, U-17 Girls and U-17 boys. The event started on 5th October with a social gathering which involved a speech from our HOS, an ultimate frisbee demonstration and a disco night. It continued till 10th October with exciting matches, to fearless battles amongst IB schools from across the country. However, things did not go as planned due to unexpected rainfall which resulted in delayed matches.
LO 2:- Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills.
The ISSO event helped me to develop communication skills because there were many schools. Each school had at least 2-3 teams including coaches. We were supposed to directly communicate with the coach to deliver messages or important announcements. In a few instances, I also had a small talk with the players too which also helped me develop my social skills. On day 2, it rained heavily meaning that the matches had to be held for nearly 5 hours. The venues also had a change in them so did the schedule. This was a huge challenge for us and our sports staff because everything from top to bottom had to be changed.
LO 3:- Initiate and plan a CAS experience
A day before the event, in the meeting we all were assigned duties and the entire flow of the event was explained to us. There were 3 venues for the event: FS Ground, KJ farm and the third being the farthest RIG. There were players who were volunteers too, so managing the rest while they had their matches was difficult however we already had the plan in mind, by conducting multiple duties at once and handling requests for the time being was something that we expected and carried the plan out smoothly.
LO 4:- Show perseverance and commitment to CAS experience.
From switching venues and schedules due to heavy rainfall, everyone had to be committed to their duties. Not showing up on a day would worsen the situation for us, so everyone had to stick to what they were assigned.
LO 5:- Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively.
We were a team, and communicating with each other was a path we followed. Communicating with the teachers to support them was also a must in order to make the event successful. As written above, there were volunteers who were players too so handling their job was a challenge for us however along with me I had 3 more friends who weren’t playing, and we had to collaborate amongst each other to divide up the duties that were required to do.
