I had the chance to take part in a Bal Mela, a youth event put on by my school. I was given the voluntary task of “Walking on Strips,” which asked for teamwork and the improvement of communication skills. I’ll discuss my experience and how it aided me in achieving several CAS learning objectives in this blog post.
LO:1Â Identify your own strengths and develop areas for personal growth.
I had to be aggressive and self-assured while also being kind and patient with the participants as a volunteer for the Walking on Strips activity. I was able to recognise my communication abilities’ strengths as a result of this event. But, as I tried to maintain the activity on schedule, I also recognised that I need to improve my time-management abilities.
LO:2Â Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process.
The participants had various levels of communicative confidence and came from a variety of backgrounds. I had to modify my leadership approach in order to overcome these difficulties, which allowed me to learn fresh abilities like creativity and problem-solving. I could detect a clear improvement in the participants’ collaboration and communication abilities by the end of the session.
LO:5Â Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively.
The goal of the Walking on Strips activity was to encourage cooperation and teamwork among the participants. I had to lead the group in encouraging cooperation and coming up with original solutions to the problems presented in the exercise. From this experience, I became aware of the advantages of teamwork, including enhanced communication, shared learning, and a feeling of success.
