Counting as Service and Activity
One of Surat’s most popular destinations is Dumas beach. Despite being a popular tourist destination, the shore is littered with trash. Both the marine life and the visitors are negatively impacted by this. I participated in the effort to clean up the Dumas beach.
LO4: I persevered in picking up rubbish along the beach’s edge, even though it required us to travel great distances, and I cleaned different areas of the shoreline. I also maintained my streak for 3 weekends and showed perseverance by being present for the cleanup regularly.Â
LO5: Collaboration with other volunteers was crucial to the experience because no single volunteer can clean the entire beach. I showed social teamwork abilities when my group and I divided up and cleaned the beach. This led to faster clean up.
LO6: This event dealt with a social issue because when people visit beaches, they pollute them by leaving trash near or on the shore. It has an impact on marine life and poses a risk to the ecosystem. Marine animals can consume the little bits of trash or get trapped in large plastic bags.Â
LO7: By working on this programme, I was able to support the community by protecting the ocean from the trash that tourists leave behind. My decision will be regarded as moral because it contributed to sustainability and benefited society.
I used to think that highly polluted beaches were a hoax and animals wouldn’t be greatly affected by the trash on the shore but after this CAS experience, I realized that my own city’s beach is very polluted to the extent that the trash reaches the water bodies. The experience helped me further understand the importance of teamwork.
