I’ve always been intrigued by what happens behind the scenes at a café, and my interest has increased over time. So, when the chance arose, I opted to work as an intern at “Stories café” and learn about different types of coffees, shakes, frappes, and other beverages, as well as their recipes.
LO 1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
This experience helped me to hone my barista skills and overcome fears such as being around so many people and working at such a fast pace to serve customers on time. I also developed my interpersonal skills, which helped me talk with my customers about their needs, receive comments, and collect money.
LO 2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
Time management and duties, such as managing several orders and producing beverages at the same time, welcoming customers, and creating mixtures, were some of the challenges I faced. With the help of my supervisor, I learnt to work at a suitable pace.
LO 5 – Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
Since the café already had its own designs, measurements, and ratios of each drink to represent on their menu, I was given the opportunity to showcase my creativity. In addition, I was able to understand their accounting processes and present my ideas to consumers. Furthermore, I improved my active listening skills, alertness, positive personality, and multitasking.
