Bal Mela is the biggest event of the year where we invite children from various SMC and village schools to enjoy different activities in sports, arts, music & dance.
LO1:Â Strength & growth
As a part of the arts group at Bal Mela, I had the opportunity to channel my creativity and help the kids make beautiful marble bookmarks. I came up with different designs and techniques to create bookmarks that were unique and special to each kid. I also encouraged the kids to experiment with different colors and patterns to create something that truly represented their individuality.
LO2:Â Challenge & skills
One of the biggest challenges I faced at Bal Mela was the language barrier. However, I didn’t let that stop me from effectively communicating with the kids. I used a mix of gestures, expressions, and basic words to convey instructions and understand their requests. This helped me develop my communication skills and taught me the importance of being patient and understanding when working with people from different backgrounds.
LO4: Working collaboratively with others.
Working as a part of the arts group at Bal Mela taught me the importance of collaboration. I worked closely with my teammates to organize the materials and resources needed for the event. We also worked together to help the kids create their bookmarks and to manage the flow of participants. By working as a team, we were able to ensure that the event was successful and enjoyable for everyone involved.
LO7:Â Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions.
Working with underprivileged kids from government schools helped me develop a greater sense of empathy and understanding. Despite the language barrier and the differences in our backgrounds, I was able to connect with the kids on a personal level and make them feel valued and important. This experience taught me the importance of putting myself in other people’s shoes and taking the time to understand their perspective.
