Learning Football (Activity)

CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) is an integral part of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme. It provides students with opportunities to engage in activities that promote personal growth, leadership, and social responsibility. I have alway loved watching the sport and was enthusiastic about learning it. Looking at CAS as an opportunity, I decided to learn the sport. In this reflection, I will focus on my experience with football as an activity for my CAS program.

LO 1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

Football has been an activity that has helped me identify my strengths and areas for growth. Through the sport, I have developed physical strength, endurance, and coordination. I have also improved my teamwork skills by learning how to communicate effectively with my teammates and adapt to different playing styles. On the other hand, I have also identified areas for growth, such as my ability to stay focused under pressure and my technical skills in dribbling and passing. These are areas that I am actively working on improving through practice and seeking feedback from my coaches and teammates.

LO 2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

One of the most significant challenges that I faced was that I was a complete beginner while I started and it was difficult for me to fit in with the players that had been playing for years now. However, turning it into an opportunity, I pushed myself to do better and that helped me learn the skill relatively faster. Football has presented me with many other challenges that have helped me develop new skills. One of the most significant challenges has been learning to work effectively with a diverse group of people. Football teams can comprise individuals from different backgrounds, cultures, and skill levels, and it can be challenging to find a common ground. Through football, I have learned to embrace diversity, communicate effectively, and work collaboratively towards a common goal. I have also developed new technical skills, such as better ball control, faster decision-making, and stronger passes.

LO 4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences

Football has been a consistent activity throughout my CAS program, and I have shown commitment and perseverance towards it. I have attended regular training sessions, games, and tournaments, even when faced with personal challenges or busy schedules. I have also taken the initiative to organize extra training sessions with my teammates to improve our skills and teamwork. Through football, I have learned the value of commitment and perseverance, which are skills that I will carry forward in other areas of my life.

LO 5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

Football is a team sport that requires collaboration and teamwork. Through my experience with football, I have developed strong collaboration skills, such as effective communication, active listening, and respect for diverse opinions. I have also recognized the benefits of working collaboratively, such as achieving common goals, learning from others, and building strong relationships. Working collaboratively in football has also helped me develop leadership skills, such as taking initiative, motivating others, and leading by example.

In conclusion, my experience with football has been a valuable part of my CAS program, and it has helped me develop skills and attributes that will benefit me in the future. Through football, I have identified my strengths and areas for growth, developed new skills, shown commitment and perseverance, and recognized the benefits of working collaboratively. I look forward to continuing my football journey and applying these skills in other areas of my life.
