Trekking and Rock Climbing

My passion for adventure activities has been since I was 8 years old. Yet, my fear of heights always held me back in hiking onto mountains. I got the opportunity to battle this fear of mine as well as experience the breathtaking and beautiful landscapes of Mount Abu in my grade 11 nature camp. Further, we explored caving with the supervision of experts that made the activities a cherishable experience. The treks differed in that one required endurance while another required strength and courage (Golden Horn Trek). The treks were done in groups, so teamwork and cooperation were required to complete the trek safely. The treks also helped me identify my physical and mental strengths and weaknesses. There were also team activities planned, which aided in the development of teamwork and cooperation within the group.

In the process, I developed the following learning outcomes :-

LO 1 :  Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

Throughout the trek, I was able to identify my strengths and areas for growth because there were many challenges and activities where I was able to recognise my physical and mental strengths, but also moments where I faced a lot of challenges, leading to the identification of areas for self-growth through experience. Thus, this educational trip not only helped me identify my strengths, but it also helped me understand and develop my areas for growth.

LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills

There were many activities/challenges that I did for the first time in my life during the trek, such as an 11-kilometer trek or rappelling, which were new challenges that I undertook to develop my physical and mental skills. This also allows me to step outside of my comfort zone by engaging in challenging activities. This trip taught me the importance of determination, as well as physical traits like endurance and strength.

LO4 – Show perseverance and commitment in CAS Experience

In this CAS experience, I demonstrated perseverance at several points because there were times when I felt I couldn’t continue due to physical challenges, but I decided to push through it, which helped me develop my commitment skills as well. I was exhausted halfway through the treks, but thanks to the cooperation and presence of coaches, I pushed through and demonstrated perseverance throughout the four days of living on the campsite.
