World Literacy Day

A special event that took place at our school to mark Literacy Day left a lasting impression on everyone there. The event’s main goal was to familiarize attendees with the hardships and life stories of our school’s support workers, rather than emphasizing reading and writing abilities. For all of us, it was an eye-opening experience. The event was planned by school kids, and we put in a lot of effort by organizing every aspect of it and upholding class etiquette. When there was nothing to discuss, we still asked questions and made sure the support personnel felt at ease telling their story. The joy we felt after hearing about their struggles and perseverance is what made the evening so remarkable. We learned about their personal problems and obstacles, as well as how resolutely they conquered them. The occasion served as a reminder that literacy encompasses more than just reading and writing. Understanding our surroundings and the individuals who make our lives simpler is important.

LEARNER PROFILE ATRIBUTES: It helped me become more reflective on the opportunities that I get and how privileged I am, and not forget to be grateful. It made me open minded towards towards people with lesser privileges, that despite everything they do not fail to provide their generation education.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:
LO 2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
My responsibility was to make a plan and organize the event. I had to search for volunteers and had meetings with teachers regarding the plans on event day. Organizing and keeping everything in order on the event day as well as leading the event was very new and nerve racking but it helped me become more confident.

LO3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience

Along with the school teachers and other volunteer students I planned the event of World Literacy Day. The planning included convincing the helping staff to participate in the event and looking for the perfect venue. It helped me develop teamwork skills and confidence in initiating an event for the school.

LO 6:Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance.
Here, lack of education was the problem. A person can learn new things and acquire a good career by being literate, which also helps the nation thrive. Due to financial constraints or other factors, a large number of individuals in this globe do not have adequate access to education. Lack of education may be the source of this issue. To lessen the problem, it is crucial to educate the kids. Didis discussed the value of education during this event. Again, the learner profile over here was communicator since we talked a lot and Didi and the students both asked questions. We must respect everyone’s viewpoint and consider the possibility that the other learner profile is open-minded. This event focuses on education in general.

LO 7:Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions
Organizing this event and spreading the message on importance of education from someone we don’t often relate to when we think of literacy i.e the support staff was a very important task as it made us realize how we take education for granted and literacy is so much more than what is written in mere textbooks. This event created a big impact on students as they got to hear the Didis’ stories on importance of literacy.
