My participation in the French school event through the Jeopardy stall was a valuable experience that allowed me to apply my CAS skills in a real-world setting. This experience involved organizing a French-themed event at my high school. This endeavor was not only a fantastic way to promote French culture but also an opportunity for personal growth and development. I believed that organizing an event centered around a different culture could not only broaden our horizons but also foster a sense of inclusivity. I decided to focus on French culture due to my personal interest in the language and my experiences studying it.
Learning outcome 5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively.
A celebration of French culture, where french students came together to participate in various activities and explore the richness of French culture. For my contribution to this event, I decided to set up a Jeopardy stall with a few of my colleagues. In setting up the Jeopardy stall, I had to collaborate with fellow students and volunteers. Together, we designed the questions and answers, created the game boards, and managed the logistics of the stall. This collaborative effort allowed us to pool our ideas and resources effectively, ensuring the success of the activity. The benefits of working collaboratively were evident throughout the event. The Jeopardy stall received a fantastic response, with a large number of students and visitors participating enthusiastically. They not only had fun but also learned about various aspects of French culture through the questions and answers. The collaborative effort ensured that the stall ran smoothly, and we were able to engage with a diverse audience.
Learning outcome 3:Â Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience.
To bring this event to fruition, several crucial steps were involved. Initially, I discussed the concept with the CAS coordinator, seeking their guidance and support. Assembling a dedicated team of students who shared my enthusiasm for French culture was essential. This team would play a pivotal role in the planning and execution of the event. Regular meetings were held to carefully plan every aspect of the event, from selecting the date and venue to outlining the various activities and logistics.
Learning outcome 2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process.
Initiating and planning this service experience was both a challenge and a valuable learning opportunity. It demanded dedication, teamwork, and the ability to adapt to unforeseen challenges. Ultimately, the French-themed event not only enriched our school’s cultural diversity but also provided me with insights into event planning, leadership, and the importance of fostering a sense of community. This experience allowed me to fulfill the learning outcome of demonstrating how to initiate and plan a CAS experience while leaving a lasting impact on both me and my school community.
