We recently travelled to Delhi to play in the ISSO basketball tournament, where we competed against all the IB schools in India. We learnt a lot of things and lots of values in the game and in my personal life as well.
LO1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth:
The journey to Delhi for the ISSO Basketball Tournament began with self-reflection. I had to identify my strengths and weaknesses as a player. This process was crucial in preparing for the tournament. I realized that I was good at shooting but needed to work on my dribbling and defensive skills. Recognizing these areas for improvement was the first step towards personal growth.
LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills:
The tournament itself was a challenge, and it pushed me to develop new skills. We faced teams from different schools, each with their own unique playing style. Adapting to different strategies and game plans required us to think on our feet and develop our basketball IQ. I learned how to be more strategic in my plays and to be a better team player. These skills were not just about basketball but were applicable to life outside the court as well.
LO4 – Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience:
The journey to the ISSO Basketball Tournament was not without its challenges. We faced tough opponents and had to overcome obstacles both on and off the court. We practiced tirelessly, worked on our weaknesses, and never gave up. This commitment was not just about the game; it was a valuable life lesson.
LO5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively:
Basketball is a team sport, and the tournament highlighted the importance of collaboration. We learned that success was not about individual skills alone but about working together as a team. We developed better communication on the court, understanding each other’s strengths and weaknesses, and supporting one another. This collaborative spirit extended beyond basketball, teaching us the value of teamwork in all aspects of life.
In the end, our journey to the ISSO Basketball Tournament was about more than just the game. It was about personal growth, perseverance, and teamwork. We may not have won the championship, but the lessons we learned were priceless.
