FS-Community service

Fountainhead School held a community service event that gave me a great opportunity to teach underprivileged children how to play Frisbee. There were six sessions on the weekends. I am very grateful for this opportunity. I had the opportunity to teach children about frisbee, as a high-level player. I enjoyed how genuinely enthusiastic they were about learning a new game.

LO1 :- Identify own strengths and areas for growth

Since we had to work in a team it was important to divide our tasks. To do this we all had to put forth our own strengths and weaknesses in order to efficiently divide our tasks. This was a moment where I had to identify my own strengths and weaknesses. The group was including (three individuals one handler who will throw the disk, a helper, and one for instructing them what to do). I did all three parts.

LO5 :- Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively.

Community service required communication and collaboration skills while working in groups as there were many underprivileged children’s learning the sport. We had to demonstrate collaborative skills in dividing the groups and conducting the activity, I thought our group members were interactive everybody had contrasting ideas and opinions to share. I showcased communication skills among my group members and the children as it was required in order to teach them frisbee, but the most challenging part was such that children’s were not comfortable with language “English”. The advantage of working collaboratively was that different creative minds let us come to several techniques and drills in a more internist way.

LO6 :- Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance

This community service experience addressed a lot of global issues concerning the SDGs: No poverty; Quality education; Reduced inequalities. This is because we worked together to provide an opportunity to the ones in need, we helped provide them with quality education and reduced the inequality between us and them. By providing them with similar skills that we are taught.

Final Takeaway

The community service helped me become more “confident” and “caring” towards underprivileged children and in general. It did benefit the children as well, in order to learn many skills and holistic development. In the end, I feel proud of myself for committing to successfully attending all six sessions during our weekends.
