Community Service

I personally believe co-curricular activities are an integral part of a child’s development .Many of the  kids aren’t able to attain so due to various reasons.  I am a firm believer so when the opportunity came I volunteered for school community service .This was held in our school on three consecutive weekends consisting total 6 sessions . the activity that I chose was to teach the kids was dance, The reason why chose to teach dance is that I have been fond of dance since my early years and I find it to be a good expression of myself.

LO 4 : Shows commitment and perseverance in CAS experience

I committed by attending all 6 sessions, It was difficult at first to handle the children that I had been assigned, as they were a bit shy and had not been exposed to such an opportunity before, however I stayed committed to my enthusiasm and they eventually got comfortable with me and we were able to make the most of all the session. I had to stay persistent so that I could continuously engage them.

LO 5 : Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

I was not the sole volunteer that had chosen dance, I had to a team to collaborate with. We pre-planned the choreography before each and session and when the children arrived we delegated and distributed responsibility amongst ourselves. Due to the number of children we had to continuously remain in harmony and collaborate to make sure that we use our time effectively.

LO 6 : Demonstrate engagement with issue of global significance

I believe that everyone was the right to a quality education, just as the SDG dictates. All these underprivileged children have right to learn about dance, dance is not only a fun activity, it is also a medium of expression which these children deserve to learn about. This happens to be one of the main reasons why I chose to teach the community dance.

To summarize, These children taught me the value of my own privileges as well as the importance of patience and significance of good communication and collaboration.
