Beach Clean Up  Blog – Thalassophilicc (A+S)

The majority of people almost always favor beaches, and I personally like to see the sunrise and sunset while swimming in cool water and hearing to the waves. It is somewhat unpleasant to watch the beaches, especially in India, where they are thought to be quite polluted with tons of plastic bags, bottles, and other unnecessary junk. However, viewing the beach with trash isn’t really overwhelming, so it is not overly unpleasant. Therefore, I’ve decided to volunteer in my friend’s beach clean-up CAS project and go clean up Dumas Beach in Surat for 1 month every weekend spending at least 1-2 hours with some of my friends picking out extra waste on the beach. The purpose of this activity as a group was to clean the beach, leaving out areas that weren’t quite as clean and leaving any natural space junk like leaves, coconut shells, and other natural dust that was on the beach, as well as collecting all plastics and other waste, regardless of natural, and dumping it in the designated location. We took a modest step, but it had the potential to change a lot of things and inspire a lot of other people.

While cleaning the beaches, I developed a variety of new abilities, increased my awareness of how my actions influence others and the environment, and catered to:

LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

As a volunteer for this initiative, I seemed to have no difficulty cleaning the beach because there were many different types of trash there that we people had produced as well as trash that waves had dumped. There were many different types of debris, including dead fish, coconut shells, dead leaves and wood, plastics, and more. Because there was so much waste, our group decided to step up and help clean up as much as we could. The primary issue, in addition to cleaning, was that we were unable to immediately alter the behavior of beachgoers, as we observed multiple vendors utilizing plastic bags and other supplies without worrying about the environmental impact of their actions. Since cleaning up the beaches was only a temporary fix, the project’s organizers made the decision to set up a social media account to raise awareness and convince others by posting pictures and videos of everyone cleaning the beach on their page. As I interacted with a variety of people while working on this project to clean up the beach, the skill that was represented was communication skills. These skills could be very useful in leading a group, enhancing my communication skills, and ensuring that the task I pledged for is not interrupted during the same time.

Additionally, these abilities will make it simpler for me to communicate with others and get more personally invested in the activity at hand. By trying out new things, I’d be able to pick up new abilities that would help me perform to the best of my ability and adjust to various situations.

LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

This task as I volunteered in beach cleaning is not a project that an individual can perform as working collaboratively is the key to success in this project to bring change. Working with a large group which included my friends and other grade-mates was a little concerning at the beginning at first but as the project took the lead all the other people started to know each other as we spend time with each other while cleaning the beach. As a large group of people was working on this following activity and it was important to interact and collaboratively work was necessary as the beaches were huge and cleaning up was required. In order to produce better work and stronger results, it is crucial to be able to work collaboratively. This is because group work allows for the brainstorming of ideas and the production of higher-quality work through group input. Teamwork was crucial for the next action because it increased the effectiveness of cleaning the beach, which would not only take days to do on one’s own but also not be as efficient and successful as it would be with teamwork.

LO6: Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance

The major issue which was catered was pollution and while there was a lot of plastic waste and other trash left bin. The beaches would eventually end up polluting the beaches and also end up in the ocean affecting the water and leading the problem of extinction and species loss. Since the natural waste left by the waves on the beaches also has intrinsic worth and should not be treated, we decided to take action and clean the beaches. We chose to focus on the plastic waste that was lying around the beaches rather than the natural waste that the waves had left behind. The school has given me enough information about the value of the environment, which has helped me make thoughtful and informed decisions that have aided in my personal development. I’ve grown more responsible as an individual toward the outside world.

LO7: Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions

At the conclusion of the activity, I gained information about a variety of new topics, had the chance to build my confidence and improve my communication abilities, and had the opportunity to go further and get insight into the significance of undersea life. I learned to be more cautious about how my activities affect everything around me and attempt to take care of nature and become more sustainable as a result of our consideration of the environment and reflection on our actions.

In conclusion, the Learner profile I demonstrated in this activity was to show care for the environment as I cleaned and raised awareness of it, being a thinker as I considered the possible effects and advantages of volunteering before actually carrying it out. I had knowledge as I considered how we could be more considerate of the environment. It is advantageous to me personally as well as to the people around me since they receive a clean and enhanced environment, which would improve their living conditions and the aesthetics that contribute to mental tranquility. I gained knowledge on how to carry out my duties, raise awareness, and even work in a team environment. My knowledge gained from this might be shared further to improve the viability of various communities and persuade people to abstain from specific behaviors that might lower the initial cause of the issue.
