Communique| Newsletter and Writer’s Club (PS)

I have always been fascinated by how words can have such a big impact on people. For me, poems and letters have always been the way to express myself and communicate with people. I got an amazing opportunity to be a part of a writer’s club and work and publish a school newsletter with some amazing writers and graphic designers. I published some of my work and also helped in different newsletter columns like review, creative part, word puzzle,10 things, etc. I’ve also found that being part of a writers club has motivated me to write more. Knowing that I have a group of people waiting to hear what I’ve been working on is a great incentive to keep at it. The following LO’s were acquired in this experience:

LO1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

Expressing through words was one of my biggest strengths. I wrote short stories and poems on different topics and put them on my Instagram. Through this experience, I was able to enhance my writing skills and I used to get constructive criticisms which helped me a lot to improve my vocab. I developed different styles of writing and explored things outside my comfort zone.

LO2: Demonstrate the challenges that have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

Being in the writer’s club meant that everyone was given different roles every time. I had never written anything outside of short stories and letters. But this experience helped me to explore the idea of poems and small fractured tales. It was not easy for me as I had never written something like this before, but with the help of some people in my club and with the help of their own work, I could do it. I learned how to think differently and I was ok to put my opinion out there.

LO4: Show perseverance and commitment in the CAS Experience

It took a lot of commitment for this club to work out. There were days when I used to have writer’s block and could not think of any words. But being committed to the deadline was one of the motivations which kept me going. It needed the perseverance to provide and reach the expectation of our audience/readers.

LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

It’s a place where writers of all skill levels come together to share their work, give feedback, and support one another. Listening to other writers read their work is incredibly inspiring, and it’s helped me to improve my writing by learning from their strengths and weaknesses. One of the best things about being a part of a writers club is the sense of community. Writing can be a lonely pursuit, and it’s easy to get stuck in your head. But when you’re part of a writers club, you have a group of people who understand what you’re going through. It motivates you to improve your writing.

All in all, being a part of a writers club has been an incredibly rewarding experience. It’s improved my writing, given me a sense of community, and motivated me to keep going.
