International Literacy Day Celebration Volunteering

Every year on September 8th, we celebrate International Literacy Day to raise awareness of the value of literacy as a matter of human rights and dignity, as well as how it benefits us. In order to encourage resilience and guarantee a high-quality, fair, and inclusive education for all, this year’s topic, “Transforming Literacy Learning Spaces,” provided an opportunity to reevaluate the basic significance of literacy spaces. Through hearing the supporting staff’s experiences about their roles in the school and their perspectives on literacy, we, the students, may learn that there can be a variety of literacy learning environments and develop respect for them.

  • LO 2. Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process.

My responsibility in this event was to instruct and supervise the group of students I was assigned. As part of my responsibility, I had to engage the group of students in a lively conversation with the staff member about their opinions on literacy and their responsibilities in the school. Even though I was trying to keep the students on track with the discussion, it was occasionally challenging to lead the discussions because few of them seemed interested, and only a few could follow the discussion due to the language barrier.

  • LO 4. Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences.

I attempted to participate in the event and carry out my duty throughout the entire event, from directing the students to their designated locations to conversing with the staff member.
