Educating Underprivileged Children

Education is actually a necessity, but in current times it has become more of a privilege. In such a situation, I feel fortunate to get the opportunity of being able to teach underprivileged children, and contribute to this great cause.

I was aware that explaining concepts is a strength of mine, and I was decent with communicating things with others. However, here communicating with the children was a challenge for me because most of them were more comfortable with the Gujarati language, and I had limited proficiency over Gujarati language. I identified this weakness, and undertook this challenge, where I tried my best to communicate effectively in that language. Initially, I was struggling immensely, but gradually with time I started understanding it better, and was able to communicate with the children in a more effective manner, where I even used my strength of being able to explain things and concepts to others well.

Education can be the means to tackle the root cause of numerous problems, yet there are many such underprivileged children who have limited access to quality education, which is an issue of global significance. Through this service, I demonstrated an engagement with this issue of global significance, although at a very small scale, where I taught a few things to a few underprivileged children.

Through this small action to teach the underprivileged children, I was able to help the underprivileged children to some extent, through which I made my small contribution to help get one step closer to achieving the SDG Quality Education. My actions could however make only a small impact, and on a very limited number of children.
