Global Oddessy

As a part of my CAS during Global Odyssey, wherein I got the opportunity to participate in a school fair. It was a fun-filled event where we grade 11 students raised money for our school project and helped us gain a better understanding of how businesses function.  I was in the FUN zone, wherein my game stall was named “roll the can challenge”. Wherein the can is rolled on a table and whenever the can stops, between the tapes a certain price was awarded to the player.  I was responsible for setting up the stall, managing the queue, and giving prizes.

LO1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

As one of my strengths, i was creative and created a fun and distinctive game idea that was challenging and helped the participants become engaged to my game and not bored. Secondly leadership, was a potential strength handled by me since i was the only one operating the whole game and managing participants, taking the cash and explaining the rules with no collaborator. I need to improve my time management because I miscalculated how long it would take players to finish the game and there were several others who wanted to play,

LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills.

Given that we had a limited budget to start off with, it was beneficial for me to learn what it takes to run a small business with the limited resources available. Crowd control in the game stall, was a issue since there was a queue and i had to ensure that everyone got a turn to play without overcrowding the stall area. Last by coordinating with other stalls, setting my stall area, and ensuring the game runs smoothly, this event also to some extent helped me get some  experience in event management.

LO3 -  Demonstrate how to Initiate and plan a CAS experience.

I had to use a lot of creativity and brainstorming to build my game. I had to decide on the exact prizes for my game, my target audience, the tools or materials I would need, and the rules for how the game would be played.  On the day of the event setting up the stall, i ensured that everything was set up with the resources required in advance, to avoid such problems, this led me to make my stall more successful.

LO4 – Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience.

The difficulties I encountered with the stall were resources, crowds, equipment, and time management, but I eventually found a solution to each one of these problems. Throughout the duration of the event i engaged with the participants and stayed focused throughout the time to avoid distractions.

LO6:

By actively participating in the school project’s fundraising, i understood the value of teamwork, the society’s challenges. Participating in these types of events can develop a sense of responsibility, teaching and assisting us students to be independent connecting our actions to global issues, and promoting an outlook on having a good impact on a bigger scale.

LO7:

As I was responsible in my stall for the queue control, and reward distribution, i had to make choices about ownership, honesty, and guaranteeing that every participant had a good time. This experience caused me to become more conscious of the ethical issues involved in planning events and the significance of making thoughtful choices in order to respect ethical standards.
