ISSO stands for international schools sports organization, they are an authorized body to organize and conduct sports events and competitions between International Schools in India. Â This prestigious event helps students in these international schools to recognise and unlock their true potential in terms of sports and provide these students with a platform where they are seen, which helps them find more opportunities such as playing national tournaments.Â
LO1:Â Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
On the first day of preparing for the event, I realized that communication was critical; without expressing ideas and collaborating with all other volunteers, it would be impossible to help make sure everything runs smoothly; thereby, I knew I needed to work on expressing myself and putting myself forward in order to be heard, which is a significant life skill to acquire.
LO4:Â Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experience
When working in groups, perseverance and tenacity are required since there are differences on the basis of ideas, obligations on each member and the part they are playing, and how they are contributing to the event. I had to learn how to persuade team members and get them on board with my ideas, but there were also times when I had to be open minded and welcome new ideas even when I did not entirely agree it was the right thing to do, but that is how working with a large group of people works, and facing this challenge only forced to learn me how to deal with such circumstances effectively.
LO 5 :Â Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
Volunteering for the ISSO event taught me the value of collaborating with others. I was the team leader for one of the groups of volunteers, and it taught me how important it is to help, guide, and communicate with one another in order to make an event successful, to distribute tasks evenly and effectively, and to complete everything that is required to make the event run smoothly.
The reason I chose this as part of my CAS is to strengthen my collaborative abilities, as well as other management skills like time management and organization. I’ve always been interested in athletics, and having the opportunity to assist make an inter IB school tournament a success while learning a lot about efficient decision making and becoming more open minded to the views of others was a dream come true.
The learner profile I explored while volunteering for this event was open-minded and communicator, and continually working together with someone or the other for four days straight helped me be more accepting of individuals and their views while also effectively bringing my own perspectives forward.
