As Term-2 began, I decided to opt for Table Tennis as my PS. I had never tried out this sport before and felt intrigued by it. I have never been interested in sports however this felt like a good opportunity to try out something new and see if I am good at it.Â
LO1 (Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth)-
Throughout this experience, I identified my own strengths and different areas for growth. Firstly, I identified my strengths, which were my quick learning and adaptation skills. Even though I thought I wasn’t going to be able to catch up and get the hang of the sport fast, I proved myself wrong. Another strength I was able to identify in myself was my determination and willingness to learn. This really helped me improve my skills when it came to the game. Moving onto my areas for improvement and growth, I believe I really need to work on my discipline and the ability to show up everyday. I wasn’t very punctual during the experience however I do believe that I did get better as I started enjoying the sport.
LO2 (Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills)-
While I was opting for this sport, I knew it was going to be a challenge for me. As mentioned above, I don’t have a lot of experience when it comes to sports and I am not very good at it either. However, I still opted for this sport in order to challenge myself and test the waters. Going into this, I thought I wouldn’t be able to do well, however, it turned out to be a great learning experience. I developed a new set of skills, including patience, perseverance and determination. I was also able to gain confidence in myself, due to this experience, that I can play sports as well.
LO6 (Engagement with issues of global significance)-
We talk about Sustainable Development Goals when we talk about engagement with issues of global significance. For this experience, I focused on good health and wellbeing as the SDG. This is because this experience helped me get out of my comfort zone and made me focus on my physical health and wellbeing. I was coerced into concentrating on my health by playing a sport and focusing on fitness, which I now believe is an integral part of one’s life.Â
Evidence –
All in all, this experience was a great learning experience for me. I was able to identify my own strengths and weaknesses, undertake new challenges, develop new skills and engage with issues of global significance. I am a much more confident person after this experience and for that, I am thankful.Â
