Literacy Day

I volunteered for the Literacy Day event organized by our school. The event was aimed at creating awareness about the importance of literacy. As a volunteer, I was responsible for ensuring that everyone behaved well towards our Didi and that they were respected and acknowledged for their work.

I understand that sometimes Didi may be shy and may not volunteer to speak, so we have prepared some questions to help engage them in the conversation. These questions include asking them about what literacy means to them, till what grade they have studied, their family and their children, and their opinion about Fountainhead students and the privileges we have as students here.

During the event, it is also likely that Didi may do a read-aloud. As a volunteer, I will make sure to respect them as speakers and actively listen to what they have to say.

LO-1 Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

Through my participation in the event, I identified my strengths and weaknesses. One of my strengths was my ability to communicate effectively and connect with people. However, I realized that I needed to work on my organizational skills as I found it challenging to manage multiple tasks at once.

Knowing our strengths and weaknesses is important as it helps us identify areas where we need to improve and areas where we can excel. By working on our weaknesses, we can overcome obstacles and achieve our goals. For instance, if I had worked on my organizational skills earlier, I could have managed my time more efficiently and accomplished more tasks.

LO-5  Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

Working collaboratively with others is important because it helps us achieve our goals more efficiently and effectively. It allows us to leverage each other’s strengths and talents, which can lead to better outcomes. In the case of this activity, teamwork was essential to ensure that everyone behaved well towards our Didi and other support staff. Leadership was also important in this activity because it helped us to organize and manage the event effectively.

LO-6 Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance

During the event, I engaged with our Didi by asking her questions about literacy and education. She shared that she had only completed her primary education, but she values education and wants her children to have the opportunity to study as much as possible. She also shared her opinion about Fountainhead students and the privileges we have, which made me realize how fortunate I am to have access to quality education.

Through this activity, I was able to demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance, specifically the issue of education inequality. Education is a fundamental right that should be accessible to everyone, regardless of their social status or background. It is a global issue as many individuals around the world do not have access to quality education, which leads to a cycle of poverty and inequality.
