Bal mela event – In this event we had to indulge underprivileged students in activities in order to help them achieve a more holistic approach towards learning
LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills
In this activity, we were assigned to indulge underprivileged students in different activities for their growth in a holistic manner. There were different games, dances, pet shows and hands-on activities. I was assigned to take care of the game of musical chairs. The event was really chaotic, as there were 2 thousand students to attend the event. We had to make them play music chairs for 3 hours in the afternoon heat. Dealing with the large groups of kids was a huge issue and I had to be creative to keep the game running. Whenever we were conducting a round and another batch came in, we had to fetch and send them elsewhere, and making them listen to me was a huge task as well. I learned to communicate in the local language of Gujarati a little bit and learned body language to lead the students.
LO5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively
In this event we volunteered to work collaboratively in order to provide a memorable and fruitful experience for the kids participating in the event. We had a leader assigned in our own activity, and the organizers had to be in contact with the leaders for the event. We had to collaboratively work in order for smooth running of the event. One person was in charge of banging the steel plate as the genre of music that would be preferred by the students was unknown. One person had to shrink the chairs, one had to arrange and distribute gifts and one had to be incharge of the group of students. By working together cooperatively, we were able to make children feel joy and get a holistic approach to learning and sharpen the creative minds.
