In this experience, we assisted a firm that organizes fleas for children from underprivileged backgrounds. We assisted in putting up the flea market and selling items such as clothing, shoes, toys, and books that the kids purchased using the coupons they earned after passing a test on a human body part identification. The kids played games, danced, ate, and bought toys, clothes, and shoes.

LO 2 : Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

I found it difficult to speak with them. I typically find it challenging to speak in front of a huge crowd. I had to engage with them outside of my comfort zone. As the encounter progressed, my communication skills improved. Moreover, by making sure that everything was maintained in its proper spot and was well-organized, my organisational abilities also improved.

LO 3 : Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience

The preparation for the event was a crucial aspect . I participated in the event’s preparation and management and along with other volunteers, I helped set up the garment, toy, and shoe stalls. I also took part in the coupon creation wherein i cut out printed copies of the coupons and distributed them into bundles.

LO 5 : Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

Working collaboratively was an essential component throughout the experience. In a short time, we had a lot to accomplish. We divided the task among ourselves which became an effortless and quick process. Sorting out things like clothing, accessories, stationery and toys in their respective stalls was a task, but doing it collaborative made it much easier. Moreover, the kids were so enthusiastic and eager to buy everything that it started to become a little chaotic. Yet because of the collective efforts, we were able to successfully manage the event.

LO 7 : Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and action

We had to remain conscious of our decisions and course of action throughout this encounter. Regardless of how well off they are, we had to be patient and kind to them. It was crucial to show them respect while also remaining cordial.

Overall, the event was a huge success, and we behaved ethically at all times. I improved my weakness and learned new talents. I’m happy I participated in this flea since it helped me personally and made kids happy.
