ISSO Volunteering (Service)

I served as a volunteer for ISSO, which hosted a football tournament at our school for students from other schools. Where I was a member of the escort team and was responsible for assisting other schools with any issues they might encounter.

During this CAS experience, LOs met.

Lo1- Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

Throughout the event, I realized that I had a weakness: when I tried to help the students with their direction, some of them wouldn’t listen, so I had to ask another volunteer for help. I believe that if I work on it, my confidence will grow in a variety of situations now that I am aware of it. I can work on it by trying to be more present in other student groups.

Lo2- Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

As a volunteer for ISSO, I served on the escort team during a football tournament for students from other schools. This challenging role required me to develop new skills in effective communication, problem-solving, leadership, teamwork, and organization. I encountered various issues during the tournament, such as lost or confused students and teams needing transportation assistance, which I was able to quickly address through quick thinking and appropriate solutions. Overall, this experience allowed me to grow both personally and professionally, and the skills I gained have proven useful in other areas of my life.

Lo4- Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences

Due to factors such as the event’s timing, which occurred a week prior to exams, it was difficult for me to volunteer willingly. As a result, I needed to demonstrate dedication and perseverance. I was able to fulfill my commitment by simultaneously volunteering and studying. I find it difficult to commit to something, but being required to volunteer and take exams forced me to do so.

Lo5:  Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

In order to make the event a success, the volunteers on the team had to work together. We were all required to spend the entire day making announcements and directing other teams to their matches.

Final Thoughts The event was successful, but it was very exhausting for everyone because we all worked all day to make it happen.
