To support International Coastal Day, I participated in an SMC-organized beach cleanup event in Surat, specifically in Dumas. Our task was to remove litter, such as plastics, that had been carelessly thrown on the shore from various locations on the beach. Through this CAS experience, I better understood the pressing environmental issue of waste accumulation on beaches and its potential harm to the ecosystem.
Learning Outcomes:
LO4: I demonstrated commitment and perseverance in carrying out the task of beach cleaning, which required clearing debris from various places throughout the beach. Staying committed and consistent can be challenging, but achieving goals is necessary.
LO5: Working collaboratively in small groups increased productivity and made our job of beach cleaning faster and less time-consuming. Leadership and collaboration influenced our group’s capacity to complete the task effectively.
LO6: This CAS experience addressed the global issue of land pollution caused by people’s negligence in disposing of litter on beaches, which can harm marine species and ecosystems. Clean coastal regions are significant worldwide for sustainability.
LO7: I recognized and considered the ethics of my actions by contributing to a noble cause that benefits society and the environment.
