Bal mela

I volunteered at the Bal Mela 2023 which took place on the 25th of January in 2023 in fountainhead school. In this event, we invited underprivileged Children from over 15 schools to play team games and dance, and have overall fun. The kids that came had a lot of fun as this is not something that they get to experience on a day-to-day basis. I was at the game Threading the needle which involved throwing a frisbee through a HOOLALOOP. I was holding the hoolaloop and we gave tutorials to everyone who came to our venue.

LO2- Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills. : The Bal Mela required a lot of laborious work, and I had to overcome the language barrier. Since not all children spoke the same language, we had to find an alternative approach. I demonstrated and provided the tutorial using my body rather than words, and Didi helped us communicate in their language. As I live in a country where many people speak a variety of languages, this made me realise that I need to practise my language skills.

LO6- Engagement of Issues of Global Significance:  In order to address these issues, governments, non-governmental organisations, and people can all take various steps, such as ensuring that everyone has access to first-rate healthcare, education, and necessities, reducing inequality and poverty, and promoting diversity and inclusion. Working to create a society where every child has an equal chance to succeed is essential. I saw this as a chance to give back to the community and contribute to making the world a better place to live.

LO7- Recognise and Consider the Ethics of Choices and Actions: Because it is a fundamental human right to have access to necessities like food, shelter, medical care, and education, helping underprivileged children is moral. Poverty-raised children frequently have to overcome significant challenges that could harm their chances for the future, education, and physical and mental health. By helping underprivileged kids, we not only uphold our moral duty to protect everyone’s rights but also contribute to society’s advancement.

I can have purpose and meaning in my life by helping poor children. It helped me to become more compassionate, empathetic, and understanding of other people’s difficulties. When I was assisting others, I also felt a sense of belonging and sociability.

In the event, I portrayed the learner profile as kind, communicative, and open-minded. While this is not something they encounter frequently, I greeted all children with an open mind and made sure they had fun while they were in our school. I made sure that all of the disadvantaged children enjoyed their time with me since I cared and felt empathy for them. By bridging a language gap using a new language, I demonstrated my proficiency as a communicator.
