I served as a volunteer at the NGO Robin Hood Army. The NGO aims to help people improve their quality of life and strives to aid various sets of people. I have been a part of various campaigns of the NGO: educating children; celebrating the Republic Day event with the children; and teaching games and sports to children that they usually do not get to play and enjoy. Overall, my experience as a volunteer changed me in various ways and has instilled a more compassionate attitude in me towards the people in my society.

I undertook the challenge of overcoming the language barrier between me and the children living in the rural area I visited several times, as the children were most comfortable speaking in Gujarati, a language that I am not so proficient in. However, I still tried conversing in Gujarati with them and also used more non-verbal communication than I usually do to interact with them and build a good rapport with them. In this manner, I dealt with the challenging situation by trying to adapt to the same and develop the new skill of being able to communicate with others despite the language barrier. This helped me better able to connect with the children.

I showcased perseverance and commitment by striving to help underprivileged children by spending time with them, celebrating an event with them, teaching and playing games and sports with them, and even teaching a few subjects to them. Hence, by attempting to help those underprivileged children in these various ways, I showcased commitment towards my goal that was aligned with the mission of the NGO.

I engaged with various issues of global significance, as underprivileged children face issues such as illiteracy and not being able to enjoy the things in life that we often take for granted. So I catered to this learning outcome when I tried helping underprivileged children in a plightful situation by imparting knowledge and striving to provide joy to them during different campaigns.
