International Literacy Day

September 8th, International Literacy Day. The event helps raise awareness of the importance of literacy and promotes it as a basic human right. The theme of International Literacy Day changes each year to reflect current challenges and opportunities in literacy. The ultimate goal of the day is to increase literacy and enable individuals and communities to reach their full potential.

Participating in this experience helped me understand the pressing issues of reading and writing. This experience taught me that literacy enables everyone to access knowledge, participate in society, and pursue their goals. The event created profiles of different learners, including openness and communication skills. An open-mindedness developed as I showed appreciation for and accept different perspectives. I developed my communication skills by communicating ideas and information with confidence.

Learning Outcomes:

LO-1:
While preparing for this event, I realized the importance of teamwork. Working with other volunteers was key to making sure everything went smoothly. So I had to work together and advocate for myself to be heard. This is a valuable life skill to master.

LO-2:

The opening of the event was challenging, as was the distribution of tasks among volunteers and other issues that created difficulties for the organizers. I faced the challenge of capturing a video for my presentation on the last day. This was a new experience for me. Through hands-on experiential learning, I have overcome this problem and developed multiple skills, including collaboration and communication.

LO-4:

Achieving our goals is a common problem for most people. We often become lazy, get distracted, and lose focus. I demonstrated determination and dedication in my volunteer and filming duties, including managing the assigned classrooms and filming the various classroom segments on the last day of the project.

LO5:

Collaboration with classmates was essential to divide tasks based on expertise. We worked together because we shared the common goal of making International Literacy Day a success. However, there were some challenges along the way: B. Certain people who did not contribute enough to the organizers of the event or who were later resolved. Teamwork was key given the amount of volunteer work we had to handle that day.
