FSMUN OC- Fountainhead School Model United Nations organizing committee (Activity)

My involvement in the Fountainhead School Model United Nations (FSMUN) Organizing Committee (OC) as the Decor Team Head was a transformative CAS IB project, providing valuable insights into multiple Learning Outcomes.

Learning outcome 5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively.

As a member of the decor team, my role was pivotal in curating the ambiance for FSMUN, spanning from the opening ceremony to the socials concert. The collaborative nature of this project became evident from the onset as our team brainstormed creative concepts to align with the event’s theme. I recognized the importance of effective communication and coordination. Regular team meetings facilitated the exchange of ideas, ensuring a unified vision for the event ambiance. Through active collaboration, we leveraged each team member’s strengths to create a cohesive and visually impactful decor plan. Coordinating tasks, such as arranging props, lighting, and thematic elements, required seamless collaboration to ensure a smooth and visually appealing transition between different phases of the event.

Learning outcome 4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences.

I was fully committed from the start, taking time to understand FSMUN’s theme and aligning the decor with its goals. Perseverance was crucial during execution, especially in planning the opening ceremony and transforming the venue for the socials concert. I faced challenges with determination, putting in long hours and intricate details to ensure a memorable experience for everyone. The positive feedback from participants and attendees showed the impact of this commitment. Our carefully curated decor not only looked great but also significantly improved the overall participant experience. Overcoming challenges and delivering a successful setup brought a sense of accomplishment, reinforcing my enduring commitment to the project. My time in FSMUN OC’s decor team showcased a deep commitment and perseverance in my CAS IB project. From planning to execution, this journey highlighted the resilience needed to achieve ambitious goals.

Learning outcome 2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process.

As the head of the decor team, one of the prominent challenges I encountered was effective resource management within a budget. Navigating the constraints of a limited budget while striving to create an impactful ambiance for FSMUN required strategic planning and creative problem-solving. This challenge pushed me to explore cost-effective alternatives, negotiate with suppliers, and maximize the impact of our decor within the financial parameters. Communication emerged as another significant challenge in my role. Coordinating with a diverse team on a daily basis demanded clear and concise communication. From conveying design ideas to providing updates on resource allocations, effective communication was essential to ensure everyone was on the same page. This challenge prompted me to enhance my communication skills, fostering an environment of transparency and collaboration within the decor team. Resource management honed my budgeting and negotiation abilities, fostering a practical understanding of financial constraints in event planning. Despite the constraints, the decor was not only visually appealing but also well within the allocated budget. The collaborative efforts of the team, coupled with the skills developed in resource management and communication, contributed to the success of the event.
