Fundraising Box Cricket Tournament

‘Play For A Cause- A Box Cricket Tournament’ was the title of our tournament. I, along with my 2 other peers, solely planned and organized an under 19 age group only box cricket tournament on the weekend at the turf. The ultimate goal was to help the unfortunates by serving them with nutritious food using the funds raised from the tournament. As part of the CAS project, we were able to learn a lot about finance, planning, communication and at the end, we were blessed to see the wide smiles on the faces of the ones we served the food to. The CAS project focused on creativity and service.

The learning objectives in focus are :

LO2 –  [ Demonstrate the challenges that have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process ]

My two friends and I did excellent planning and sketched the framework of the entire project pretty well and organized. But the main challenge was to persuade the public to take part in our fundraiser tournament. During this process, we developed upon our persuasive skills while communicating with them to take part. We even developed persuasive skills as we collaboratively designed a poster which was later even sent for printing. Moreover, we even had to communicate and coordinate with the turf provider as the date of the tournament was a weekend, and hence after a lot of negotiations we were finally able to find an appropriate turf.

LO3 – [ Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience ]

As we didn’t seek any guidance or support from anybody, we ourselves were solely responsible for the success or the failure of the event. From brainstorming, to planning, to the execution of the event, the work of the entire project was evenly distributed amongst us and executed to result in a successful outcome. During the CAS project, we communicated with the public to participate in our tournament, the turf providers to provide us the turf at our suitable timings and to the printers to give us a print out of our poster.

LO5 – [ Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively ]

As we were three members of the group, we were able to divide amongst ourselves the roles and tasks. Though everybody was involved in some way or the other for each of the tasks, my main role was to handle the finance and to convince and gather as many participants as I could. The division of tasks amongst ourselves resulted in skillful results and more effective and efficient results.

LO6 – [ Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance ]

The profits generated from the tournament were solely used to help the hungry unfortunate ones. We were supposed to gather a total of 3400 rupees in profit, but because an entire team backed off on the day of the tournament, we were only left with a profit of 600 rupees that were used to buy nutritious food which was later served by RHA members to the poor. This tackled the SDG Goal of Zero Hunger as we tried to eliminate / reduce hunger, contributing our part.

LO7 – [ Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions ]

As responsible citizens, we understand that everybody isn’t equally fortunate. Therefore, rather than keeping the surplus amount of money amongst ourselves, we choose to donate the money for a good cause (serve the hungry).

In the end, with collaboration, teamwork and planning, the project was a success, but we obviously couldn’t generate enough surplus as we had planned.
