CRICKET

Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a 20-meter (22-yard) pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at the wicket with the bat, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this and dismiss each player (so they are “out”). Each phase of play is called an inning, during which one team bats, attempting to score as many runs as possible, while the other team bowls and fields, trying to dismiss the batsmen and thus limit the runs scored by the batting team.

I have been very fond of cricket from a very young age and had been playing ever since. However as I grew up I barely had time to play cricket thus, I forgot how to play it. Therefore, I decided to learn cricket again. Thus, I choose learning cricket as an activity for my CAS experience.

-LO1:(Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth)

To identify my strengths and areas for growth in cricket, I assessed my skills in technical, tactical, and physical spaces, got feedback from coach Mr Ramesh and peers, reviewed game footage, set goals that focus on both strengths and weaknesses and practised regularly to develop my skills. Staying motivated and positive throughout the process is crucial to achieving success. Celebrate my successes and stay focused on my goals to improve my performance on the field continually.

– LO2 – (Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills)

Undertaking challenges and developing new skills is a crucial parts of improving in cricket. Over the past year, I have taken on the challenge of improving my batting technique against spin bowling, which has been a weakness of mine. I worked closely with my coach MR. Ramesh to develop a training plan that focused on improving my footwork, shot selection, and overall confidence against spin bowling. Through consistent practice and dedication, I have been able to develop new skills and see a significant improvement in my batting against spin. I have also challenged myself to improve my physical fitness, which has helped me to increase my speed and agility on the field. These challenges have not only helped me to become a better cricket player, but they have also taught me valuable lessons in perseverance, determination, and hard work that I can apply in other areas of my life.

-LO3 -( Initiate and plan a CAS experience)

As a cricket player, I initiated and planned a CAS experience that required effective time and homework management. I began by identifying opportunities to play cricket, such as joining a local club or team and then creating a schedule that allowed me to balance my cricket commitments with my academic work. I set specific times for cricket practice and matches and scheduled my homework and academic tasks around them. By prioritizing my tasks and managing my time effectively, I was able to fully engage in my CAS experience while still maintaining a healthy balance in all areas of my life.

-LO4:(Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience)

In my CAS experience with cricket, I have shown perseverance and commitment through my dedication to the sport. As a member of my local cricket team, I have consistently shown up to every practice and game, even when facing challenges such as injuries or tough opponents. Despite setbacks, I have remained committed to improving my skills and contributing to the team’s success. In particular, during a recent cricket tournament, I faced a difficult opponent who had previously defeated me. However, I did not let this discourage me and remained committed to improving my technique and strategy. Through hard work and perseverance, I was able to achieve a personal best score and help our team secure a victory. This experience taught me the value of commitment and perseverance in achieving success and has motivated me to continue working hard to reach my goals both on and off the cricket field.

-LO5 -(Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively)

Working collaboratively in cricket can have many benefits and requires a variety of skills. As a member of a local cricket team and KK academy, I have developed skills in communication, teamwork, and leadership through collaboration with my teammates. During practices and games, we work together to develop and execute strategies, provide support to each other, and give constructive feedback. By sharing our strengths and knowledge of the game, we can make more informed decisions and achieve better results. In addition to improving our performance on the field, working collaboratively in cricket has also taught me the importance of accountability, respect, and empathy. Through collaboration, we learn to rely on each other, appreciate each other’s contributions, and celebrate our successes as a team. These skills and benefits of collaboration have not only helped me become a better cricket player but also a more effective team member in all aspects of my life.

-LO7:(Recognise and consider the ethics of choices and actions)

As a cricket player, I recognise and consider the ethics of my choices and actions both on and off the field. I need to uphold the spirit of the game, which means playing the game in a fair, respectful, and sportsmanlike manner. This includes avoiding behaviours such as sledging, cheating, or unsportsmanlike conduct, which can damage the reputation of the game and harm the experiences of other players. Additionally, I believe that ethical considerations in cricket also include issues such as safety, injury prevention, and avoiding conflicts of interest. As a responsible player, I take the necessary precautions to ensure the safety of myself and other players, and I avoid conflicts of interest that may compromise the integrity of the game. By recognising and considering the ethics of my choices and actions, I can help to create a positive and enjoyable environment for all players and promote the values of sportsmanship and fair play in cricket.

I am glad that through this CAS experience, I was able to improve and learn new skills, discipline and tactics which would help me improve the overall gaming performance it also provided me with a lot of experience which would come in handy in future.
