Scuba diving is an adventure that I had always wanted to try, and when the opportunity arose to take it up as a CAS activity, I jumped at the chance. Scuba diving allowed me to develop my CAS Learning Outcomes, including physical fitness, personal growth, and social skills.
LO1:Â Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth.Â
The experience also allowed me to develop my personal growth. Scuba diving requires immense focus and concentration, and I had to be aware of my surroundings at all times. It taught me the importance of being present in the moment and developing a sense of mindfulness. It also pushed me out of my comfort zone, and I felt a sense of achievement as I overcame my fears.
LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills.
Scuba diving is physically demanding, and I could feel the strain on my body as I swam against the current. However, it also helped me develop my physical fitness, as I had to use my entire body to swim and maintain my buoyancy.
LO5: Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively.
Scuba diving is a social activity, and it allowed me to develop my social skills. I was part of a group of scuba divers, and we had to work together to ensure our safety underwater. We communicated through hand signals and gestures, which helped me develop my non-verbal communication skills. It also allowed me to bond with my fellow divers, and we shared our experiences and stories after the dive.
