Cooking is something which I am very passionate about, it is something I truly adore and want to make it my career. In order to learn more about it I thought making dinner for my family would be nice for me to learn different ways of cooking and different techniques of cooking, it would also help me to come to a conclusion whether I really want this as my career or not. For 2-3 weeks every night I used to make a new dish for my family, sometimes it would be dessert and sometimes I would make the whole dinner, then I used to get feedback for improvements.
LO1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
During this experience, I understood where was I lagging behind and what all can I do to improve my skills, researching and having patience were one of the skills where I could develop a bit more. However, during the process, I came across my strengths in this experience, baking was one of the strengths I discovered. All of this taught me that cooking is not an easy job and needs more precise skill than I thought they would.
LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills
Cooking food for a family of 5 was very challenging, especially when I was doing it all alone. I had to keep the time in mind as well as everybody’s personal preference in food, finances were also a challenge since learning new techniques and cuisines everyday under a given budget was very tough but at the same time it taught me how to manage with the bare minimum.
Overall, this was probably one of the most interesting experiences where I got to learn something about my career and how was I going to cope with it in the future.
