Freshers Event (Creativity, Activity)

I was a volunteer for the freshers event which we (Grade 12 students) conducted to welcome the Grade 11 students to Diploma Programme (DP). The freshers event is a very important way of introducing ourself and DP teachers to the juniors, since DP is a new beginning and through the freshers event we started the year off through dance, and some fun activities which we had planned for them. The purpose for selecting this CAS experience is because while planning this event I worked collaboratively with other peers to plan the whole event, and organize the games along with cooperating with other teams like decor teams. I was a part of the organizing committee and also helped the other teams in finishing their tasks.

Through this CAS experience, I covered creativity and activity.

To start with, we planned games and dances which is a hands-on activity that encouraged physical engagement. It promoted teamwork, coordination, and sportsmanship among the participants. Coordinating the activities involves logistical planning, which is an essential aspect of activity in CAS. This included setting up the venue, managing equipment, and ensuring that everything ran smoothly. Organizing an event requires effective time management. This skill is crucial for ensuring that all planned activities and performances happen within the allocated time frame.

Secondly, organizing a Freshers’ event involves creativity. We brainstormed ideas, designed invitations, created a theme, and thought of engaging activities that would leave a lasting impression on the students. Choosing the theme required creative thinking as it involved considering various factors like the preferences of the students, current trends, and what the Grade 11 students will enjoy. We also planned games and dances which involved crafting enjoyable and memorable experiences. We thought creatively about how to make them fun, engaging, and suitable for the grade. Also, we incorporated visual elements like decorations, props, and designs contributes to the overall creativity of the event.

LO2 – “Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills”

Taking on the responsibility of organizing a Freshers’ event was a challenge. It required careful planning, attention to detail, and effective time management. Through this process, I have developed and honed my event planning skills. Challenges arised during event planning, including logistical issues, and last-minute unexpected changes to the decor. We successfully navigated these challenges which demonstrated my ability to find creative solutions, and adapt to new situations.

LO3 – “Initiate and plan a CAS experience”

The entire CAS event, from conceptualizing the Freshers’ event to planning the games and dances, was initiated and planned by us. We took the lead in proposing and developing the idea regarding the freshers event, which showcased my ability to initiate a CAS experience.

LO5 – “Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively”

To plan and execute an event required collaboration with various individuals, including fellow students, teachers. Coordinating efforts and ensuring everyone is working towards a common goal demonstrates my ability to function effectively within a team. We assigned specific tasks based on each team member’s strengths and capabilities. These tasks included decoration, activity/game planning and logistic requirements which helped us function smoothly as a result of collaborative efforts within the event team. This showed my capacity to recognize and utilize the skills of others.
